Song: Fam' Peyi'm by Yole and Ansy Derose
Artists' Brief Biography:
Yole Derose is an iconic Haitian singer born in Port-au_Prince in 1955. During her adolescent years, Yole joined the church where her parents regularly attended, as a lead singer, and grew quite attached to music. While getting a college education in Quebec, Canada, Yole met one of the most commercially successful Haitian artist at the time, Ansy Derose. The couple grew fond of each other quick and started making music together after becoming a married couple. The two interpreted their very first song together "Merci" (Thank You) in Puerto Rico in 1979. After the death of her husband Ansy, in 1998, Yole engaged in a solo singing career. She became known not only for her beautiful love songs in both French and Haitian Creole, but also for her emotionally charged songs usually directly speaking about the social struggles of Haitian and the political and economical brigandage of the country.
